Non-Intrusive Questions as a Special Type of Non-Canonical Questions

Abstract This paper introduces on the scene a new type of non-canonical question, dubbed non-intrusive, exemplified by interrogatives marked particle oare in Romanian. It does so providing an account distribution and interpretation this using updated version context components F?l?u? & Laca (2014), elaboration general assumptions Faller (2002). The intuition captures is that marking interrogative with oare, speaker signals she not assume issue raises will be resolved future state conversation. further argued non-intrusive questions are empirically close to but identical conjectural questions, discussed most recently Eckardt (2018), therefore have recognized as separate category. predictions theoretical implications relative typology canonical questions.
